This is one of the films 24 diehard fans like myself were on the edge watching upon release.  It was also a prelude of sorts to what followed as the seventh season to the series which, for me, was one of the best.

If I was to rank the 24 series in terms of my best seasons - from best to worst - it would be; 1, 2, 4, 3, 7, 5, 8, 6 & 9.  That said, even my worst season (9) still scores a 'fresh' rating.  24 is probably one of the best action/drama/thriller series we'll see for a while.  If you are my age or older (& a T.V. series watcher) you probably remember Joel Surnow's series La Femme Nikita (1997 - 2001) which was what had us glued to our screens during the latter part of our teenage life.

24 Redemption is one of those straight to DVD films one needs to see especially if you are an avid follower of the series.  The not too shabby storyline follows a seemingly withdrawn Jack Bauer as he tries to forge a fresh life in a fictitious African country.  Unknown to him is an agent from the USA who pursues him for crimes he needs to answer to from a darker past.  Jack gets doubly embroiled in local politics on the brink of coup d'état with the antagonist Colonel Dubaku at its forefront.  Events unfold leaving more questions than answers but, better yet, answers one would get in the subsequent seventh season of the series.

An easy watch, not the best movie in the world but I doubt it was trying to be.  This was a creative way of bridging seasons of the already amazing 24 series.  A T.V. movie I would watch again on a chilled Sunday afternoon.

Rating -     3/5 stars
