Redemption (2012)

Type - Short Fiction

Genre -         Action, Sci-Fi

Director - Pascal Aka

Country -         Ghana

Aha!  Today we review a film by one of the best directors on the continent, and a personal favourite - Pascal Aka’s Redemption (2012).  If you thought Black Panther was the first film to have people of colour in superb fight scenes then you are wrong - Redemption in my view is one of the best attempts by an African filmmaker to flex his muscles on martial arts choreography and visual effects, short as the film may be.  Pascal Aka is also one of the African directors who inspired me to get into filmmaking and has heavily influenced my work.

The fighting sequences in this short are just amazing and who needs a great story with such, right?  I feel this short was made solely for the purpose of showcasing the martial arts and visual effects from its makers - it worked!  The film is a short short, and no more can be added but the fact that you need to watch it for yourself.  If you like this one, and are a martial arts/action buff like me (actually I’m an almost everything buff!) then you should also check out The Retriever (2012) by the same stunt team.
